About the artist

Stopgap Dance Company are world renowned pioneers of inclusive choreography and in 2026 celebrate 30 years at the forefront of artistry, access and using dance as a movement for change. Founded in 1996, the company has grown from a community dance project into an internationally recognised touring company and is proudly supported as a National Portfolio Organisation by Arts Council England.

Stopgap’s collaborations and performances have reached audiences on some of the UK’s most high profile platforms, including the Paralympic Team Homecoming Ceremony and the Festival of Remembrance. Their acclaimed company productions include Lived Fiction, The Enormous Room and Artificial Things, which is currently available on Channel 4 and featured as part of the GCSE Dance syllabus, introducing young people across the country to inclusive dance through the lens of Stopgap.

Alongside their artistic and performance work, Stopgap delivers an extensive programme of talent development, and community participation, nurturing the next generation of disabled dancers, artists and leaders across the sector and in the communities of Farnham, Surrey where they are Artists in Residence at the Farnham Maltings. Their work spans the future leaders programme, youth and community dance companies, educational opportunities and strategic advocacy, supporting systemic change within the arts industry and indeed the world they dance in.

Through their performances, leadership and advocacy, Stopgap continues to rigorously invest in the culture of equity and inclusion. They are committed to removing barriers to dance, nurturing the talents of dancers born into any body and any mind.
