About the artist

Miss Theatre is a performative art collective based in Bangkok, led by Pathipon (Miss Oat), rooted in the radical potential of experimental theatre as a form of queer resistance. The collective creates performance works that confront systems of oppression, amplify queer voices, and build solidarities within and beyond the performing arts. Performance, for Miss Theatre, is not merely an aesthetic practice, it is a political act, a communal ritual, and a tool for dismantling patriarchy, authoritarianism, and normative structures of power. 

Their work draws upon activist strategies and cultural memory, transforming the personal, pop cultural, and historically suppressed narratives into critical artistic material. By reclaiming histories and centering lived queer experiences, Miss Theatre challenges dominant narratives and carves out space for alternative ways of seeing, feeling, and being. 

In the context of Thailand, now, the first country in Southeast Asia and the third in Asia to legalize marriage equality, Miss Theatre’s work gains further urgency. 

Despite this legislative milestone, the existence of gender-diverse people in Thai society often remains tolerated but not truly understood. The collective responds to this contradiction by placing queer bodies and stories unapologetically at the center of their performances. On stage, they embody radical joy and beautiful sadness, emotions that overflow, resist containment, and provoke discomfort within patriarchal norms. Their presence becomes both a celebration and a confrontation: a queer gesture of visibility that refuses to assimilate. 

The collective is made up of individuals across a spectrum of identities: trans, queer, non-binary, lesbian, gay, and cisgender allies, working collectively through an ethos of solidarity, justice, and creative defiance.
